Biography or History:
In the winter of 2019 and 2020, a respiratory virus, Covid-19, emerged in Wuhan, China. By January, the United States confirmed its first case. The virus was highly contagious, and countries began instituting lock downs to slow the spread of the virus. The University of Texas at Arlington began monitoring the evolving status of COVID-19 in January and documented the first confirmed case in March 2020. UTA implemented online course delivery beginning on March 23, 2020. Between 2020 and 2022, the University guidelines and policies changed as the administration learned more about the virus. UTA implemented face-covering and social distancing protocals for the fall 2020 semester, which remained in place until May 21, 2021. For both the fall 2021 and spring 2022 semesters, the University took steps to temporarily reduce classroom density at the beginning of the semester. Most Coronavirus measures implemented between 2020 and 2022 were lifted in February 2022. For more information regarding the Coronavirus pandemic please consult the Center for Disease Control or the World Health Organization.
